Writing because I like writing

I have always been a big proponent of reading and writing. And while I diligently read at least 2 to 4 pages of a novel every day (usually fiction, lately non-fiction), I can't say the same thing about writing. There are a lot more benefits to writing than reading. I literally have to put down my thoughts on paper and they have to make sense. It's so much harder than it looks, but that's why I need to do it. I have always been the try-hard-things-and-do-them-well kind of person.

I have been struggling to find a topic to write about. Julio Zhuo says that writing is a process of extracting personal truth from the dark depths of the mind's ocean. And that writing, reading, and thinking go hand-in-hand. While reading exposes one to new perspectives, writing helps bring clarity and aids to express ideas honestly and vividly. I am a Product Manager by profession and communication goes a long way to be successful in my day-to-day activities and as well as long-term career in general. I spend a lot of time writing emails, creating presentations and documents to express my vision and strategy for my product. The whole team relies on me to be clear on the direction the product is expected to take. Given writing is such an important aspect of my job, I wonder why I don't put in more effort to just practice writing. It's definitely going to help me advance professionally and personally.

I turn 32 today. I have decided to make writing a habit. I will try and spend at least 15 minutes a day to write. Most of the posts will probably remain as drafts, but it will still help me structure my thoughts, be a better Product Manager, and hopefully a better person overall.
